Compare Car Insurance Premiums

How do insurance companies use descriptive statistics and probability distributions to project health and auto insurance premiums? In regards to age, why is there an inverse relationship between the two premiums?

I had a claim against a guys insurance company for damage he caused. They came out today and did an evaluation and now the insurance estimator is saying that the vehicle needs to be totaled and that I will be offered some low ball figure because my car has prior damage which was only cosmetic and minor nothing structural at all. I know that the vehicle will be worth more than they are going to offer. But I just want a fair price for the car. They suggested that it might take some back and forth negotiations and I need to know how to prepare for that and succeed at getting something fair? Are there any angles or cards that I can play that should give me some leverage against their claims adjuster? Your help is appreciated and thank you for your answer!

LOL the Adjuster thried to screw me and offered me $435 for ther car. Whjen I told him that their was similar cars selling for $1250 he got spooked and hung up. He called baqck and left me a message and said they were cutting a $1000 check and that I do nothing else. Just wait for my money. So the perceived value of the insurance company really doesn’t equal market value. Thanks for everyones support and help.

Car insurance mandates are done at the STATE level, in accordance with the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. constitution.

Yet people (the president included) continue to claim that a FEDERAL mandate to buy insurance is no different than being required to cover your car. (Completely ignoring that you have to BUY a car before you must get insurance…the govt’s basically saying they own your body…insure it or be taxed)

So isn’t a FEDERAL mandate unconstitutional unless you plan on writing an amendment to the Constitution so that such a mandate is in accordance with the Tenth Amendment??

Obama promised during the campaign that Americans earning less than $250,000 a year would not see any tax increases from an Obama administration.

Obama strongly denied that the mandate amounts to a tax increase – saying it was no different than requiring people to have auto insurance and charging a penalty if they don’t. He also said it was important for everyone to have insurance so that people who do carry insurance don’t have to shoulder the load for people who don’t. The excise tax is designed as an enforcement mechanism to ensure people will carry insurance.

i got into a car accident yesterday. my policy just started yesterday as well (i know i know). i have liability, my car was totaled, theirs has relatively minor damage compared to mine. their passenger went to the hospital. i was fine. i’m pretty sure it was my fault. so i know my car isn’t going to get covered on this. my question is, i am getting a new car and i wanted to know if it was legal for the insurance company to drop me now or if they have to wait until the policy is up (which is 6/18). i already know my rate is going to go up so that is not my question.
in case this helps, i live in maryland. i have progressive. the accident happened in delaware.
also, i wasn’t doing anything wrong, it just happened, it was at night and i swear i didn’t see them. they must have had their lights on or something, and on top of that, their car was this weird color that’s really easy to miss in the dark. the cop said it was the light, from switching to the green arrow to solid green, there is no transition (i.e. a yellow arrow), it just does it by itself. there are accidents all the time he said.

Hey frends, thanx for the response in my previous questions. I just got the insurance appraiser check my car and she gave me an estimation for repairs at first and when i was on my way for repairs, she called me again and told me to not to do repairs. I had to come back home again, and it was really annoying. The problem of the vehicle after it was smahed in the front part was that:
-> bumpers n headlights, grills, radiators, needed to be replaced,
-> my car can’t be driven normally, i have to hit full throttle to move the car forward while in “DRIVE” ( automatic transmission).

So, i dont know why they told me they’re gonna total it out? I’m just afraid that they might try to give me low compensation telling that it is rebuilt/salvage title, but my car had no major problems, all 4 tires haven’t been driven more than 900 miles, new hoses just one week ago, and it was running good and the mileage was also okay, only the title is rebuilt or salvage whatever, but the car has been working fine. Can I dispute if they give me too low price ? Which pricing type should i look at kelly’s blue book to compare it with that insurance company’s compensation for totalling out my honda civic 97 ? Please frends, I really am in a mess, I can’t accept if they try to give too low compensation. Let me tell ya, the repairs estimation was $ 1178 and that also without estimating the unknown problem with “DRIVE”.

i’m so sorry i missed one thing, ,, the insurance company told me that i cud keep the car (maybe they dont wanna deal with salvage title??duhh) and they’re gonna total it out and i can decide wat to do with the compensation, whether to fix or buy new one…. sorry about missing this info..

I have clean records for 3 years without citations or publicly recorded accidents. However I had 2 minor accidents that dented 2 other cars in the past 2 years. The insurance premium is getting high because of these 2 minor accidents. Will my premium go down if I switch to another insurer since the new insurer will not know about the 2 minor accidents. Does insurance companies exchange claim or minor accident history when I switch from one insurance company to another?

I am an 18 year old guy,and I can’t find any f****** reasonable motor insurance,because whether I’m 18 or 80 I’m not paying 3/4k a year for a ‘in case’ situation which is most likely never going to happen-i.e a crash.Because I only see driving as a form of driving,not as ‘fun’ or showing off.But I need to have a car to travel.

Just when I think I’ve got a fair quote, I realize there’s a line item missing. I’m looking for a template that lists all the options in all categories (comprehensive, liabilty, collision etc) so I can just fill in the numbers and compare.

The whole argument with women when asked about how they feel about male car insurance:

“too bad”
“that’s just how it is, deal with it”
“men are irresponsible”
“who cares not my problem”
“statistics say most men can’t drive as safely as women”

So why should I care if women are getting paid less for the SAME job a man is doing since:

Women are usually less productive than men
Women want to be flirtatious in the workplace
Women are always suing for sexual harassment
Women have to call off to have kids or take care of kids.

And I could just use all of the above:

“too bad”
“that’s just how it is, deal with it”
“women are irresponsible”
“who cares not my problem”
“statistics say most women can’t work as efficiently as men”

Since the insurance companies “feel” men are irresponsible based on statistics.
Then men who have seen women consistently under perform ,compared to men, should just pay women less for the SAME amount of work.

BTW the “women pay more for health insurance” argument is old and tired. The Male vs. Female health insurance gap is no where near as big as the male vs. female car insurance gap.

My car has always been insured under my father’s name. He had a DUI a year ago, and the insurance costs rocketed. Do my rates rise also, or can I separate myself from the DUI and find my own insurance?

If you insure a new car for $170 month, why doesn’t the cost of the monthly premium go down as the car’s value drops over the years?

If the car’s value decreases 50%, why doesn’t the insurance costs go down?

I dont know why my car insurance is so high compared to my friends. I own a 2005 suzuki Forenza, I’m married, have no tickets and its still $176.00 per month, while my unmarried friends with nice cars are lower, I thought that being married and not having a sports car was suppose to lower the price.
