Is it fair that my health insurance premium should increase 39% in less than a month?

15 Apr

I pay for my own health insurance. The premium has doubled in the last 3 years and now is going up again March 1. I’m not old enough for Medicare and my employer doesn’t pay for insurance.

Should I quit, get unemployment benefits and cobra while trying to find an employer who will provide health insurance?

Or should I go without health insurance and just use the emergency room if I get sick?
The question is, IS IT FAIR?
It’s always so easy to spot conservatives, they display so much compassion for fellow citizens.

There is no reducing health insurance costs without tort reform.

If we had Obamacare, your health insurance premiums would rise even more quickly, and so would your taxes.

I go without health insurance and just go to the doctors office. They do accept checks, cash and credit cards, mine offers a discount for immediate payment. I have yet to see a doctor unwilling to treat someone able to pay out of pocket. I save thousands every year by not buying health insurance and just paying for my own health care.

Haven’t been to the ER in years. The last time I went, had received a nasty cut at work and workmens comp paid for it.

Gotta love the thumbs down, you people are morons! Insurance companies produce a profit, if we don’t pay them, health costs decrease.

Be thankful, you could have your taxes jacked up along with a premium increase to boot AND get less care! That is what the democrats are proposing.

I am glad Insurance keeps going up, maybe once we get to 100 million people without Insurance in this country we can finally get true UHC.

You’re free to stop wasting money on car rims, iPods, bling bling, cable movie packages, and brand name clothing in order to save money for medical expenses.

Life is not fair, don’t expect the world to take care of you.
Only a fool would give up a job to look for a better one during a time of high unemployment.

Of course it is not fair. This is why we need reform. And for anyone who thinks it would get worse if we had reform, you are being very ignorant. Come on now. Why would the Dems want to make it worse? Friggin’ geniuses. Keep drinking that Fox Kool-Aid.

i blame the 18-35 year olds. they refuse to get insurance as they are invincible and that leaves the rest of us to fund the health care industry. young people do not need the care dollars that the elderly do and their money takes care of the older folks. the ironic thing is that the young folks voted in owe-bama and are the most vocal about cheap insurance but they want to gov to fund it, ie the taxpayer, and they are not stepping up to help out the country.

    Mine did too.
Now that the neocons have killed the reform bill for them they can go back to gouging the public.

Everyone’s premium will skyrocket in the next five years. In 2015 to have health care will be a luxury. The cost is going to be astronomical, nonetheless, the geniuses in DC fail to understand this and act as though all is well with health care.

Use the free market to compete for your health insurance. Get other quotes from other companies. Once you have found some other quotes which in many cases will be cheaper than your current insurance, then call your current insurance company and tell them you have quotes from other companies and you are going to switch if they don’t match your quotes.

You might also consider high deductible health insurance. Say $5000 deductible. You will get a lower cost coverage, but you will want to save the difference in premium in a health savings account. The amount you contribute to the health savings account is tax deductible up to i believe $5800 for a married couple. This is what I use and review my insurance policies annually getting other quotes to keep premiums down.
