Compare Car Insurance Premiums

How do insurance companies use descriptive statistics and probability distributions to project health and auto insurance premiums? In regards to age, why is there an inverse relationship between the two premiums?

Car insurance mandates are done at the STATE level, in accordance with the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. constitution.

Yet people (the president included) continue to claim that a FEDERAL mandate to buy insurance is no different than being required to cover your car. (Completely ignoring that you have to BUY a car before you must get insurance…the govt’s basically saying they own your body…insure it or be taxed)

So isn’t a FEDERAL mandate unconstitutional unless you plan on writing an amendment to the Constitution so that such a mandate is in accordance with the Tenth Amendment??

The questions from ABC’s George Stephanopoulos highlighted a politically dangerous new aspect of the health reform debate for Obama – as critics from Republican leaders to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce say his reform proposals amount to a middle-class tax increase. Obama promised during the campaign that Americans earning less than $250,000 a year would not see any tax increases from an Obama administration.

Obama strongly denied that the mandate amounts to a tax increase – saying it was no different than requiring people to have auto insurance and charging a penalty if they don’t. He also said it was important for everyone to have insurance so that people who do carry insurance don’t have to shoulder the load for people who don’t. The excise tax is designed as an enforcement mechanism to ensure people will carry insurance.

If I choose not to have a driver license, and not to own a car. I don’t need to have car insurance. But with the health care mandate I have no choice or go to jail!

I filled out one thing but it turned out to be almost a phishing scam.

Im about to do COBRA, but I think I can get something cheaper.

Im also in SC if that matters.

I have noticed that a lot of liberals love to compare car insurance to health insurance. A common saying in the liberal community is:

“Well you have to have car insurance to protect your car, shouldn’t you HAVE to have health insurance too?”

Well now I have my own little comparison to make…

Wouldn’t you say that forcing health insurance companies to accept people with pre existing conditions is kind of like wrecking your car and then wanting the insurance company to cover the expenses? If health insurance companies were forced to accept people with pre existing conditions wouldn’t everyone just wait until they became sick?

Why can’t I just go online and quote the lowest health care insurance like I do auto insurance
If the government wasn’t involved, insurance would only be needed for major operations and I could pay for routine checkups in cash

You are not forced to buy car insurance if you don’t have a car. You have the right to not own a car. So why can’t we have the right to not have health insurance??

Why do people keep stating that being forced into buying health care is no different than being federally mandated to own car insurance?
Buying a car is acknowleding the fact that you will need to purchase car insurance…its a privileged not a right.

Why should Americans be fined and imprisoned for being forced into something they can not control?!

car insurance is a law right? and I know a lot of people that have a very difficult time paying car insurance since it’s so high, but it seems like insurance companies are making a lot of money, NOW how can we compare that to health insurance if it became a law to have to have it.
You would hope that health insurance would be more affordable since more people are putting money into the pot right, but I am afraid but it being a law, the rich (insurance companies will get richer) and raise the cost of health insurance since it’s a law.
Maybe our solution would be to have our government give us tax breaks on health insurance premiums and some how get more for our money with health insurance. It’s sad that you have to spend $500.00 a month for health insurance but still have to pay office visits and wait 6 months for preexisting problems.
Maybe the solution is to have better health insurance options, right?
Isn’t that what McCain wants?
