Does your car insurance premium go up if a claim is filed against you, but is dropped? ?

19 Jul

A guy hit my car a few weeks ago, and we decided to work things out between ourselves. I don’t have time to fix my car until December since I need it for school and I’m too young to drive a rental car. I called my insurance for advice on how to go about all this, and they recommended that I file a claim for my protection (in case he decides not to pay). They indicated that if I decided not to fix the car through insurance, then my premium and the guy at fault’s premium would not rise. However, once I filed the claim, the guy who hit me got a call from his insurance saying he would have to pay. What’s up with that?

If we end up working it out between each other, and I dismiss the claim, will his premium go up anyway?

Does your car insurance premium go up if you have a claim that didn’t involve others but was over $1400?

22 Jun

Its just body damage and no one else was involved. Also if I use my rental coverage will that make my premium go up (i.e. is premium tied to how much the total claim cost)? Thanks

Premium increase after a car scratching incident?

05 Jun

I was just involved in a car accident. I scratched another car when I was planning to pull out my car in an alley without flashing a signal. My car was ok. The scratch on the other car was roughly from wheel to wheel and with a slight crease in the middle. It was pretty obvious on a black new car. The estimate from the auto body shop was around $800.

I know that the premium will increase after the carrier handles that car’s damage for me without paying anything to the other car’s damage. But I wonder how much increase it may be. If the increase is large enough, I’d consider to settle this down with the other party without notifying the insurance company. My current carrier is Geico with 15k/30k minimum coverage (not a comprehensive one) in Pennsylvania. I am a pretty new driver (2 months after getting a license) and there is no previous records. Thanks.

Why is everyone’s health insurance premium the same?

04 Jun

Obviously it would be very difficult to get the public to accept health insurance premiums using age or gender as a rating variable, but why not lifestyle choices such as smoking or obesity? It’s not right that someone who smokes and who is 100 pounds overweight pays the same premium that I do.

If I ask my insurance company to fix my car will my premium increase?

03 Jun

I’m a beginner driver and I have my first car and a new insurance. Today I hit a standing car. My car requires some body work and the other car was not damaged at all. There was no police report filed. I’m 24 and single.
I appreciate your help.
Will it be cheaper if I fix it myself?

Separate payment for paying insurance premium. Is it legal?

02 Jun

A friend of mine is a contractor and he is currently negotiating his rate with the recruiter. One of decision he made was to get health insurance somewhere else (not thru recruiter’s company).

During the negotiation, the recruiter wants to pay for his expense for health insurance by giving personal check on monthly basis. His paycheck will reflect only total hours he works on the project times hourly rate. He is doing W2.

My questions:

1. Is this a legal practice?
2. I assume he would report the extra income when filing the tax. Is health insurance premium expense deductible?

Thanks.

When I reaches expired age, do I just lose all my Universal Life Insurance premium that I…?

01 Jun

…have been paying in the past?
I purchased my universal Life insurance about 6 years ago. I believe that my policy will expires when I reaches 90’s. I know it is big IF, but IF I happened to be lived over 90’s and my policy expires, do I just lose all my premium that I have been paying for over 50years and cash value?
