Obviously it would be very difficult to get the public to accept health insurance premiums using age or gender as a rating variable, but why not lifestyle choices such as smoking or obesity? It’s not right that someone who smokes and who is 100 pounds overweight pays the same premium that I do.

Should everyone pay the same in taxes?
I don’t think so. I think the rich should pay more. Why? Because the rich gets more from the government.
Consider defense, for example, which makes up 20% of the budget. Defending the country benefits everyone; but it benefits the rich more, because they have more to defend. It’s the same principle as insurance: if you have a bigger house or a fancier car, you pay more to insure it.
Investments in the nation’s infrastructure– transportation, education, research & development, energy, police subsidies, the courts, etc.– again are more useful the more you have. The interstates and airports benefit interstate commerce and people who can travel, not ghetto dwellers. Energy is used disproportionately by the rich and by industry.
As for public education, the better public schools are the ones attended by the moderately well off. The very well off ship their offspring off to private schools; but it is their companies that benefit from a well-educated public. (If you don’t think that’s a benefit, go start up an engineering firm, or even a factory, in El Salvador. Or Watts.)
The FDIC and the S&L bailout obviously most benefit investors and large depositors. A neat example: a smooth operator bought a failing S&L for $350 million, then received $2 billion from the government to help resurrect it.
Beyond all this, the federal budget is top-heavy with corporate welfare. Counting tax breaks and expenditures, corporations and the rich snuffle up over $400 billion a year– compare that to the $1400 budget, or the $116 billion spent on programs for the poor.

At what age does male car insurance cost the same as female car insurance?
Car insruance costs more for teenage guys than gals. At what age does insurance for males not cost more because of their sex?
Why is there a huge difference in insurance quotes if all info is the same?
I’m shopping around for insurance quotes because I thought my car insurance was too high. Progressive gave me a very low quote, which I was happy about. It was what I thought I should be paying compared to friends I’ve talked with. All the other quotes from the other insurance companies were in the same price range and very high. I began to worry that Progressive had some incorrect info, so I called them back, we went over all the info again, and everything is right. They even emailed my quote to me and it’s all correct. Should I be worried that the quote is so low or is Progressive just being competetive?
Is The Lottery The Same As An Insurance Contract?
You need car insurance, you go to Geicko (for example) and start paying monthly premiums.
you pay the premium for the first month, nothing happens (no accidents)
you pay the premium for the second month, nothing happens
you pay the premium for the third month, get in a car accident and receive a check in the mail from the Insurance company.
Similarly,
You go to gas station to buy instant lottery tickets
you pay the “premium” ($1) for the first ticket. Nothing happens (you lost)
you pay the “premium” ($1) for the second ticket. Nothing happens
you pay the “premium” ($1) for the third ticket. You won. You get money.
Both scenarios you are paying a “premium” for when a random event occurs and when that random event happens you get money in return.
The only difference is that you’re mad in one scenario cause you crashed your car, and happy in the other scenario as your walking out the gas station with $100 in your pocket and still have your car to drive home with.
Dui And Reckless Driving, Do They Have The Same Effect On Car Insurance Premiums?
I thought a driving under the influence was a more serious charge than reckless driving (dry). Thus a DUI would cause rates to go up more. Anyone have some info please?
