When they talk about averages in car insurance …?

When they talk about averages in car insurance, are they talking about annually, or monthly, or every six months? Fro example, the average for 2003 was, according to an article I found online, $939. (“The national average cost of an auto insurance premium in 2003 was determined by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to be $939.” -http://www.carinsurance.com/kb/content17532.aspx)

    By the wording it sounds like yearly.

    It’s yearly, but knowing the average is not much good to the individual customer like you and me because rates vary from state to state and are highly dependent on your driving record, your age, where you live, how much you drive, the type of vehicle you drive, whether you have multiple vehicles or not, whether you have your home insurance with the same company, and your credit score. Therefore, “average” doesn’t mean very much.

    The only way to know exactly what insurance will cost for YOU, is to get a quote from various insurance companies. Here’s an article that has some more details:
