Why Are Uk Car Insurance Premiums So High Compared To The Rest Of Europe?

04 Sep

After a quick browse on the nest I found that similar conditions and parameters when applied to Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands produce quotes that are at least half to a maximum of 70% less.
Also, continental insurers are not asking too many questions. I was never asked about, where I park the car, if it has a tracking device, if there’s CCTV in the area or what brand the alarm system was.
Does anyone know why these UK premiums end up so much more expensive? (The one reason I can imagine, is that insurance gets much less exposure in advertising in those European copuntries compared to UK).
Any answers appreciated.

Well, this is not a professional answer and is only an opinion but I feel that the French and other such countries would not stand for the high premiums we have to pay and would do something about it such as strike. Its the label of RIP OFF Britain that comes to the front of my mind again where insurance companies charge as much as they can get away with hence higher fees.

Because in the UK everybody drives on the wrong side of the road.

I have to agree with the rip off britain remarks but would add that we also now pay IPT (insurance premium tax – from 5% to 17.5%?) on Car Insurance here, so the Government are ripping us off too.

I think you in the UK arent too bad compared to the Republic of Ireland. It is absolutely astronomical here. Why do we take it. The rest of Europe wont stand for this
