Why is my car insurance company charging me 2 premiums?

12 Mar

I go through farmers insurance and last month I paid a premium of 94.42 and now this month I’m being charged a premium of $83.70 plus a renewal adjustment of $7.27 does this mean my car insurance is always going to be this high? It was only $67 last 6 month cycle.

you really have to call your agent to ask him. and keep calling until you get thru, there is no excuse for making people wait when they are your customers.

Call the company directly and ask them why your premium has increased and what the monthly fee will be. You may be able to lower your premium by increasing your deducatble, remove coverages you do not need or will not benefit you. For example if you drive a car that is worth $1,000.00 and you are paying for fire, theft, vandalism, and you have a $500 deductable. If your car is stolen you will have to pay $500.00 to get $500.00 fro your insurance company. Not really a good deal. Find out the value of your car and asses if you need these additional coverages. (Also are you paying for rental car insurance, loss of use, etc) there may be a number of ways to save and insuranc ecompanies will screw you ever ychance they get. Good luck

Have you had any tickets, accidents, etc, because these all can cause an increase in your premiums. Also if you’re new to the company you may have been on a special introductory rate that has recently expired. Anyway I would highly advise you to contact your Insurance agency to get the exact answer.

Sounds like you made some kind of change to the policy – like you moved, or changed coverages, or got a new car or something. You’ll have to call them and ask.

    Hi Kassie,

That is strange. Farmers is usually a very consistent company. I wish I had more info.

If they keep raising your rate I would consider switching.

My company premium keeps going down. I was at $65 a month (full coverage) now I am at $59. No tickets, no claims.

    Good luck :)

For auto insurance the obvious way to get a good quote is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you pick similar options with the same limits, auto model, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have top name insurers and will give many quotes on auto insurance polices.

Ahh, Farmers Insurance! Depending on when your policy renews you’ll see “renewal adjustments”. If your billing cycle starts on the 22nd of each month and your renewal is say December 31st, you’ll be charged a certain premium for 12/22/08-12/31/2008, then you’ll be charged a renewal adjustment from 12/31/08-01/21/09. The first month premium on a renewal adjustment is always higher, if you tell me your full 6 month premium I can give you an estimate of what your monthly premium will be. You’re not being charged two premiums, look at the bill. It breaks it down for you. I’ve worked for Farmers for the past two years, I see this everday

    Hi,

That is odd. It sounds like you changed something on your policy to me. You should call them and ask. If it keeps going up or you can’t figure out why our premiums are changing I would start looking at other companies. The source I’ve listed below has great rates that won’t change unless you get a ticket or something like that and then they may increase $5-10 depending on the violation. Good luck!

    Happy holidays! :)

    Hello Kassie,

Only Farmers insurance will be able to explain the insurance premiums they are charging you. Significant changes at renewal is a good indication it’s time to shop around and see if another top rated reputable company like Farmers can offer a significant savings. Good luck.
