I want to take out a car insurance policy, but I have an Australian Drivers License. Will this make my insurance premiums higher? Is it better to obtain a UK Drivers License before taking out a policy?
Will An Australian Drivers License Make My Car Insurance Premiums A Whole Lot Higher?

If you are resident in the UK then you will have to change your license to a UK one anyway.
Australia is a “designated” country so you can just get it changed over and it must be done within 1 year
* you can drive in Great Britain (GB) on your full, valid driving licence from Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man or a Designated Country for up to 12 months from the day you become resident in GB
* you can exchange your licence for a British one within five years of becoming resident
* if you haven’t exchanged your licence for a British one before the end of the first 12 months of becoming resident, you will need to stop driving

either way the insurance company will see you as a new driver as you don’t have any no claims or previous insurance in the uk.
legally, you can only drive in the uk on a foreign licence for 6 months, any longer than that and you will need to get a full british licence.
either way, vehicle insurance will be high but age will also play a key part, the older the better. if your young expect one hell of an insurance premium!
